Problem: Acer N35 Refuses to update ROM
Acer N35 Refuses to update ROM
I have a problem that has been driving me mad for months, that I hope someone might help me with. In a nut-shell, I have an Acer N35 (the model with GPS built in) running with the original ROM install. Acer made an update available that updated the ROM to the Windows Pocket PC 2003 SE software. I need this software update to run as specific app on this device.
So I downloaded the ROM, current available at
ftp://ftp.support.acer-eur
o.com/hand
held/n35/o
simage/
n35
_SE_v2.10.
12_WWE_SD.
rar
and followed the instructions from Acer. This involved copying the ROM update to the root directory of an SD card, flicking the hardware reset swtich to the left, then flicking it back to the right whilst holding the power button in for about 3-5 seconds. Then the screen lights up, says it is downloading the new ROM from the SD card, and an orange progress bar appears, and then it freezes.....
And that's the problem! It never gets any further, only about 10% in on the bar progress. I have tried loads of times, and it won't work. Then you do a normal hardware reset again, and it loads up with the original ROM, with the welcome program running, and them proceeds to work like it did out the box.
Acer mention in their readme file that certain SD cards won't allow the update to run. However, I have tried 2 different cards, one of which was supplied with the Acer PDA itself (the GPS maps were originally on it).
Has anyone has the same problem, or more to the point, can anyone catergorically recommend a work around with a particular SD card, or another method? I so want this update!
Many thanks in advance.
