RAID1 on Power MAC G4 recommendations

Hi everyone.
Before I start, I just have to admit i'm a Wind*ws techie, so don't all scream at once :)
I have a photography friend who wants to create a redundant backup of all his data on his 2/3 yr old MAC G4 running the latest OS X.
I've set this up on a windows machine using 2x200Gb SATA 7200Rpm Seagate drives with RAID 1 without a problem. PCI SATA card installed.

I have a few questions on how to set this up on a MAC.
1. Does this G4 come with onboard SATA support (it's old, so I doubt it)
2. I want to have 2x250Gb SATA drives installed. Is MAC able to read the entire disk (all 250Gb), or do I have to partition it? (i'm sure MAC is able to read the entire drive, it's not windows)
3. If it doesn't support SATA onboard, which PCI (it does support PCI right?) card would you recommend.
4. In Disk Utilities, is this the most efficient way to setup a RAID, or would it be better to setup a Hardware RAID?
5. Which SATA hard drives would someone recommend. I would go for the 250Gb Seagate SATA 7200rpm drives.

Another question, DVD writer, can I purchase any DVD writer or must it be specifically for a MAC?

I think that's all my questions for now.

thanks a lot,
And if more games came out on MAC, I would consider converting :)

Solution: RAID1 on Power MAC G4 recommendations

1/ Nope, no SATA at that time yet.
2/ Read the full 250Gb is no problem as to my experience even without creating partitions.
3/ Why not use the onboard ATA connections?
4/ generally a hardware RAID will be faster if this is the purpose.
5/  I use Samsungs good price/value i think
Other solution is to put a SATA PCI card possibly should exist with a hardware RAID solution but I'm not quite sure on that one.

For the DVD check out the pioneer models for mac or any matsuhita based DVD they will be compatible also.
