I have a similar problem. Optiplex GX280, Fan goes crazy from cold, Nothing on screen.

This PC was working, little dust, no impact, no overheat. Does it need a new motherboard or is there a fix? Like a new Temperture sensor.

The PC is out of warranty and BadCaps will charge more than it's worth.

Is there a do-it-yourself solution or does anyone know where I should look to get started?

I understand the components of a PC but not the electronics. I am not afraid of a soldering iron.
