How can I measure the amount of voltage of CMOS battery?

Hi Everyone:

While I am happy to report that a CMOS Checksum Error was corrected by replacing the CMOS battery, I am curious about one thing.  In one response from the previously closed post, it was suggested I determine that the CMOS battery is receiving 3v.  With that point in mind, is there a way of gauging whether the CMOS battery is at 3v and not under that amount of voltage indicating a weak battery?

Any suggestions to this question will be appreciated.

        Thank you

Solution: How can I measure the amount of voltage of CMOS battery?

If you have a multimeter you simply (a) set it to measure voltage;  (b) set it on a scale appropriate for 3v;  and then (c) touch black probe to the outside or bottom of the battery and the red probe to the center section that's marked "+3v".   The meter will then tell you the current voltage of the battery.

Here's a simple multimeter that will work well for this:  http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/item/DVM-850BL/search/3_1_2_DIGIT_LCD_MULTIMETER_W__BACKLIGHT_.html
