UPS battery configuration
UPS battery configuration
I have an apc 350 unit that has one 12v battery in it. I want to pull the battery out and plug the unit into a 24v solar battery array. I don't know what plugged 24v into this unit will do as I only took out one 12v battery.
Can someone tell me if I can do this on this unit. Essentially I would end up with two 12v car batteries tied to together to make 24v creating the battery backup part of the apc ups interface.
Solution: UPS battery configuration
Bad Idea. Putting 24v into a 12v UPS will most surely result in some smoke and possibly some exploding components. My suggestion if you want to run this process one way Solar Bat Array->UPS is either a inverter (12v/24v-110/240v) or a 24v-12v inverter. If you want to chain two car batteries together to feed the UPS you will probably find that the UPS charge circuit wont like to charge those batteries. I would talk to a solar panel / battery supplier and get the right inverter if you want to do it properly.
