HDS AMS2100 vs EMC CLARiiON CX4-120?

We are in the market for a midrange SAN and are looking at the above offerings from HDS and EMC.

The EMC is slightly more expensive, but not so much that eliminates it from consideration.

We have no dedicated storage administrator and the task of maintaining and monitoring the SAN will be shared between a couple of capable network managers.

15k SAS drives will be allocated for 3-4 ESX hosts and SATA drives will be used for D2D backup.

All other things being equal, which would you recommend?

Thanks

Solution: HDS AMS2100 vs EMC CLARiiON CX4-120?

I like the EMC kit and I believe they have a better roadmap for new storage array features than HDS. The EMC GUI (and there is a plug-in for VMware vCenter) is easy to use, but as storage is a world unto itself, you'll need to invest in training for your admins, but that's true for either vendor. EMC's integration with VMware is probably the best in the industry, which is hardly surprising given the close ties between the organisations. For example, EMC is the first storage vendor with a multi-pathing plug-in for vSphere (which also supports HDS arrays, just by the way).

NetApp is also worth looking at - they have some nice functionality around snapshotting and storage efficiencies with on-array de-duplication.
