Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96 sound card installation is faulty on WinXPSP2

This company went out of business, and there are no more boards or places on the net where I can find info, so I must ask here.

This sound card is a pro-recording card; has a PCI board connected to a breakout box. The cd that came with this has only one file in it: the setup713.exe file. This is the only driver/software I've found anywhere, so I must rely on this.

I installed the card inside the machine (sorry I don't have the mobo info but I can find it - but it's a P4 with built-in RAID on the IDE), deactivated the built-in sound card from the BIOS, then rebooted. So far so good.

Win XP asks for a driver, I neglect the request, hit cancel, and insert the CD. From Explorer, I ran the install software (setup713.exe), no hitches or glitches. The software asks that I reboot, so I do. The computer posts, then boots, then gives me the Welcome screen. I choose my user (with Admin privileges), enter the password, then hit enter.

At that moment, the computer hangs on the "Loading your personal settings..." screen. I can't go past that, even when rebooting.

I went into safe mode and removed the driver: that was effective, as I was able to boot all the way and use my user. But anytime I install the software, it won't boot into Windows, regardless of the user I choose (Admin, mine, another with Admin privs).

I have not been able to find one shred of info on this type of problem or any other problem on the net. The manual does not have any reference to this either. I don't know if there was a patch for this or not, as the original site is gone. I only find pre-release reviews when searching Google.

If anyone has a site, info, files, anything that could help, please let me know. This is a 700$ card and I would hate to see it go down the tubes.

BTw, this card DOES work on another PC, on which it's been installed for months now. No glitches there. The CPU on that one is AMD, though I doubt that would be the source of the problem.

Thanks for all the help!

Solution: Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96 sound card installation is faulty on WinXPSP2

This card may require a bus mastering PCI slot.  Are all of your PCI slots bus mastering (some motherboards did not implement bus mastering on all slots)?   If you're not sure, just try a few other slots -- wouldn't hurt to just try them all.

Does the BIOS have a "Plug 'n Play OS" option?   If so, be sure it's enabled/checked/etc.
You may have a conflict between BIOS-assigned and Windows-assigned resources.
