Stop media player from changing resolution when projector is connected

When I play a video through media player, it looks fine on the laptop. If a projector is plugged in, the laptop changes the resolution of the projector as soon as I open the video. It plays fine but I can no longer see the media player controls on the projector. Only the video appears through the projector...

Need a way to attached 2 laptops to one projector and switch between displays

Problem: T41, W2K3 unable to display via external projector and the Fn f7 Key
